So on the way back from a meeting in the SOMA neighborhood of San Francisco, I strolled by the flag ship Apple Store on Market Street. On my way to the meeting I noticed that the “We’re out of the iPhone 3G” sign was gone so I thought maybe I could stop in and pick one up on my way back.
Much to my surprise. There was a line going down the block. One person mentioned that they had been there for two hours.
That’s CRAZY. The phone has been out for a week and folks are still queing up for 2 hours?!?!? NUTS!
My first gen iPhone is good enough that I’m not going to wait in that long of a line.
They’re still doing that back here too. Argh.
I don’t get the whole line thing. I went to the AT&T store and they offered to order and ship to the store, calling me when it it came in. They even emailed me too. It took less than a week. All those people camped out could have had one by now.
Yeah everyday in my commute, bus passes the Apple Store in Financial District and there’s a line every time. I don’t get it – but shows me how many SF peeps love their techy gadgets. Insane!
I am going to wait in line tomm am. how fun!
I went to the Montgomery Mall here in DC and there was a huge line waiting to get their hands on the new device. The clincher is Apple Store employees came out and told them they only had 20 phones and there were about 50 people in line.
It’s like Wii madness all over again.
Makes me glad I waited in line for 3 hours opening day.
